What will 2010 bring?

It’s sure to be an interesting ride for all small businesses. Whichever party wins the election will have to do something to satisfy the money markets that UK can manage it’s debt. This is bound to mean public sector spending cutbacks and a level of tax rises that will impact consumer spending. Employers will be looking at ways to cutback and for most the staffing bill is the one that needs looking at first. But accountants can bring fresh insight and innovation to businesses where the wood and the trees are too close together! Is your accountant doing this?

Getting paid

One of the most challenging aspects of running your own business can sometimes be to get paid promptly for the work you have done. Using a service called Cashflow Protector, one local business recently got paid by two slow payers, one of which is notorious for non-payment and the other had conveniently delegated all the admin to a remote head office.

By outsourcing a part of your credit control process, why not release your time back into your business?

PAYE and NI

12/05/2009 I think I have finally discovered why there are so many accountants in the world. Looking through the rules regarding benefits in kind and the declarations that any employer faces in making their annual return, it becomes very clear that the authorities have a long way to go on tax simplification. But then I guess they have enough to do right now; to rewrite the rule book on their own expense procedures.

It seems that Sterling has stabilised against the Euro at near parity. Will this mean that Great Britain PLC is ready to enter the Euro?

Will the timing of the next General Election, which is approaching faster than Mr. Brown might like, mean that the question is not considered?

Will any of the political parties have the courage to make the Great Euro Debate an election issue, or will the risk of divides within their own parties be too great?
